Good Friday: The Cross Where Pain & Purpose Meet
Today, we gather in the sacred weight of Good Friday, a day that feels like a contradiction. How can something so painful be called good?
It is good not because of what happened to Jesus…
but because of what His sacrifice made possible for us.
Today reminds us that love is not just a feeling; it is a decision.
A decision to endure.
A decision to forgive.
A decision to give… even when it costs everything.
On this day, we remember that:
- When humanity gave its worst, God gave His best.
- When darkness seemed to win, redemption was being written.
- When hope looked buried, salvation was being born.
The Cross is where pain and purpose meet.
There were nails, yes…
But there was also mercy.
There was suffering…
But there was also salvation.
There was death…
But there was also a promise that this is not the end.
Isaiah 53:5 reminds us:
“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”
So today, we pause, not in despair, but in deep gratitude.
We reflect on a Savior who:
- Stayed when He could have walked away
- Loved when He was rejected
- Forgave when He was wounded
- Gave His life so we could truly live
Good Friday is an invitation.
An invitation to:
- Lay down our burdens at the cross
- Release what has been weighing on our hearts
- Remember that no pain is wasted in God’s hands
- Trust that even in our darkest moments… resurrection is coming
To our community today:
If you feel weary, there is strength at the cross.
If you feel broken, there is healing at the cross.
If you feel lost, there is hope at the cross.
And if today feels heavy, remember this:
Sunday is coming.
What looks like an ending… is only the beginning of God’s greatest victory.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
On this Good Friday, we thank You for the gift of Jesus.
Thank You for Your love that held Him on the cross for us.
Teach us to live lives that reflect that same love, grace, and sacrifice.
Heal every heart, restore every weary soul, and renew our hope today.
Help us to carry the message of the cross not just in words, but in how we live.
We honor You, we remember, and we are forever grateful.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
